KARACHI: Dow varsity admissions

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 26: About 3,970 students have applied for admissions to the first year MBBS programme for the session 2006-07 at the two constituent colleges of the Dow University of Health Sciences, said a university official on Tuesday.

The entry test of the applicants will be held at the main campus of the NED University of Engineering and Technology on Oct 8.

The number of applicants for admissions has increased almost by 40 per cent. Last year, around 2,850 candidates had applied for admissions against 430 general merit seats.

According to DUHS Admission Director Dr Syed Muhammad Idrees, the university has allocated 213 seats each at the Dow Medical College and Sindh Medical under general merit, while another 30 seats for reciprocal admissions of Karachi domiciled students at other medical colleges of Sindh.

Besides, 40 seats for DMC and SMC each has been allocated under self-finance programme for Karachi-based students. There were eight seats for overseas Pakistani students under the self-finance scheme, while four seats were reserved for disabled students of Karachi, said Dr Idrees.

He said that Sept 18 was the last date for collection of admission forms from candidates.

However, he said, those students who applied for the admission but failed to submit some required documents could submit the same via TCS courier service by Sept 30, otherwise their application would not be entertained for the eligibility to appear in the entry test, he added.

The provisional merit list of admissions would be issued on Oct 29. Selected students would be required to deposit an amount of Rs29,800, including tuition fees of two years, to finalise their admissions, it was further learnt.
