ISLAMABAD, Sept 25: President General Pervez Musharraf’s book In the Line of Fire that was marketed on Monday made a ‘remarkable’ business in the capital on the first day.
“We have sold over 300 books within few hours and I think it is a record sale of any of the books launched in recent past,” Mr Yousaf, a bookseller in the Super Market, said.
The book was to be launched on early Tuesday morning Pakistan time in United States and it has been distributed worldwide. The local markets got its copies in the evening.
The bookseller said most of the buyers were diplomats, military attaches, military officials and journalists. “I purchased 1,500 books and 300 have been sold on the first day. More books could be sold had it been marketed in the morning,” he said.
Talking about quality of the book, he said it was hard-bond and the finest quality paper had been used. Printing of the book was also very fine.
The cost of 352-page book is Rs1,298.
“People want to know about the contents of the book and it is expected that it would remain on high sale in next few days,” Amir Ahmed, a buyer said.
The bookseller said according to a rough estimate, about 10,000 books had been marketed in one throw on the first day throughout the country and its second lot would arrive on Thursday.
He said usually it was quite difficult to sell such a costly book in the country like Pakistan but President Musharraf’s creation had registered a remarkable business. Another bookseller in Rawalpindi said he had sold 10 books but more people were coming to buy it.
