PESHAWAR, Sept 25: NWFP’s Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi on Monday stressed the need for sincere and dedicated efforts for implementing schemes meant useful for the common man.

Presiding over a meeting of the secretaries’ committee held here on Monday, he said the image of a government, depended on effective use of limited resources by the bureaucracy.

He said unless senior officials set good examples, sermons and instructions would serve no purpose. The chief secretary told the committee that punctuality should get serious attention and laxity could not be allowed.

He called for frequent inspections by secretaries and heads of departments to ensure that funds were properly utilised and quality of projects and services were maintained to provide real benefits to the public.

The need for better coordination among the departments, effective advocacy of provincial projects at the federal level, diligent preparations for all meetings in the federal ministries were other subjects discussed at the meeting.

Later, the chief secretary visited the quake-hit Mansehra and Batagram districts and inspected various works including under-construction schools and hospitals.

In Mansehra, he visited Dadar in Siran valley, Balakot and Gari Habibullah and also went to Bakriyal, the proposed new town for Balakot. He listened to peoples’ grievances about acquisition of agriculture lands.

He also visited camps of the earthquake affected people with vulnerable groups at Jabba and Ghariyal. In Batagram, he inspected the under-construction DHQ hospital where he was briefed on the ongoing schemes.

The chief secretary promised to take up the matters with chairman of ERRA for simplification of such procedures which were causing delay and delegate sanctioning powers at the district level.—APP
