KARACHI, Sept 25: Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi, Evarist Pinto, on Monday greeted Muslims of the country on the start of the holy month of Ramazan and expressed his community’s solidarity in maintaining the sanctity of the month by way of abstinence and special prayers.

In a message to the members of the Christian community on the significance of the holy month for Muslims all over the world, the bishop said that it was the duty of people from all faiths to respect the holy month of Ramazan with due solemnity, fasting, charity and prayer. He emphasised the need for special prayers for peace and prosperity of Pakistan.

Bishop Evarist Pinto said that Ramazan focused on self sacrifice and devotion to God. “Fasting serves many purposes, as when we are hungry and thirsty; we are reminded of the suffering of the poor; it is also an opportunity to practice self-control and cleanse the body and mind. In this sacred month, fasting helps people feel the peace that comes from spiritual devotion as well as kinship with fellow believers,” he said.
