BD axe manager

DHAKA, Sept 24: Bangladesh have sacked their manager Harunur Rashid just 10 days after his appointment, Bangladesh Cricket Board officials said on Sunday.

Rashid, a former air force officer, was chosen to manage the side for next month's Champions Trophy in India but was fired on Saturday following strong media criticism, BCB joint-secretary Reazuddin Al Mamun said.

“We had been losing confidence in Rashid after media raised some allegations against him,” the BCB official said, without giving details.

Former captain Khaled Mahmud, who retired from international cricket last February, will replace Rashid as manager for the Champions Trophy.

“Mahmud is closely associated with the players and we hope he can bring benefit to the team by many means,” Mamun said.

Rashid was not immediately available for comment.—Reuters
