Robbers kill four of family on resistance

KASUR, Sept 24: Four family members, including two children, were killed on resistance during a dacoity attempt on Saturday night at a house in Sodeyal village, Chunnian. Later, the ringleader of dacoits was also killed in an encounter with the police.

Police said that ringleader Zafar Iqbal alias Pappu along with his eight accomplices entered the house of Talib Hussain and held up the inmates hostage. On offering resistance, intruders shot dead Talib’s wife Shamim Bibi, his mother Noora Bibi, and his children Rashid (8) and Gulraiz (2). While one of the dacoits also sustained bullet wounds due to the firing of Talib.

Later, the gangsters took shelter in sugarcane fields when a police party headed by DSP Rauf Ahmed Chishti and SHO Riaz Abbas reached the spot. Bandits opened fire on police when law enforcers besieged the fields. The police also returned the fire. The shootout lasted for more than an hour which resulted in the killing of ringleader Zafar Iqbal alias Papu. While his accomplices managed to escape by taking the advantage of darkness.

Kasur DPO Syed Ahmed Mobeen has established two raiding teams headed by SP (investigation) Syed Al Mohsin and ASP Faisal Ali Raja for the arrest of bandits.

Police said that deceased dacoit Zafar Iqbal was wanted by Chunnian police in 40 cases of heinous crimes, including kidnap for ransom and murder cases.

KILLS BROTHER: A man shot dead his brother on Sunday over a property dispute at Hinjar Kalah village in the limits of Sarai Mughal police station.

Reports said that Abdul Sattar and his brother Muhammad Aslam had exchanged harsh words. Later, the former opened fire on the latter. He died on the spot.

On the complaint of deceased’s son Afzal, the police have registered a case against Sattar, his wife Nusrat and two unknown persons.
