Nation urged to shun sectarianism

ISLAMABAD, Sept 24: President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have extended Ramazan greetings to the people of the country and urged them to maintain balance in their lives and identify and eradicate elements which promote extremism and sectarianism.

The message by the president says that fasting aims at building personality and character of the Muslims and restricts them from indulging in wrong doings. It is collective philosophy of Islam that a man’s welfare lies in maintaining balance and refraining from extremism, the message adds.

The president, however, regretted acts of some unscrupulous elements who, for their worldly benefits, indulge in hoarding and adulteration of food items.

“Such an act, in fact, means a huge loss here and hereafter and is an extremely evil and condemnable act,” the president said.

The president said Islam has given priority to mutual love, respect and welfare in every aspect of human life and prayed that “may Allah Almighty guide us to keep fasts in conformity with the true teachings of Islam”.

“May He mould our hearts and minds to the objectives which Islam and Ramazan define and bestow us with the blessings of this sacred month,” the president prayed.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in his message has urged the nation to identify and eradicate elements that create extremism and sectarianism.

He said Pakistan had come into being on the 27th of Ramazan and it was obligatory upon the Muslims to conform their lives to the teachings of Islam.

He said the glorious teachings of Islam called upon every Muslim to fulfil his personal and collective responsibilities in the true spirit of Islam because deviation from its lessons only leads to chaos and disorder.

The PM said undue rise in prices during Ramazan had become a matter of routine but was totally against the teachings of Islam.

“We expect the business community to fully support the government’s efforts to keep prices stable,” he added.—APP
