ATTOCK, Sept 24: District Police Officer (DPO) Zafar Iqbal has constituted an investigation team to probe into the failed attempt to smuggle sizable quantity of arms and ammunition for suspected use in terror activities during Ramazan.

Giving details of the seizure, the DPO said on Friday night, the local police signalled a car (Islamabad KG-415) to stop at a picket set up near Burhan interchange on G.T. Road.

During search, the police seized 16 Kalashnikov assault rifles, 41 30-bore pistols and 25,800 bullets.

The police arrested the alleged arms smuggler, Mohammad Rafique, a resident of Takhtbai village, Mardan.

The DPO said the special drive against illegal arms and anti-social elements would continue, adding the it was because of this campaign that the latest arms smuggling bid was foiled.

SECURITY TIGHTENED: The Attock police have chalked out a security plan to maintain law and order situation during the holy month of Ramazan.

The plan was finalised in a special meeting held here on Saturday at District Police Headquarters under the chairmanship of DPO Zafar Iqbal.

Briefing the press about the security plan, the DPO said leaves of all police officials had been cancelled and extra police including Elite force would be deputed at mosques, Imambargahs and other sensitive places.

Organisers of all religious places had been directed to remain vigilant during prayer timings, particularly Namaz-i- Tarahveeh.

On such occasions, entry should be allowed only after proper body search using metal detectors, he said.

Furthermore, religious leaders belonging to all schools of thought, members of district and tehsils peace committees and local public representatives have been requested to extend their support to the district police in maintaining peace and religious harmony during Ramazan.
