KARACHI, Sept 24: Police in different towns of the city have devised the security and anti-street crime plan to maintain peace during the holy month of Ramazan.
Korangi TPO Shahjahan Khan visited various areas of the town and issued directives to the police under the same plan. He asked the SHOs to deploy police at markets and other busy areas as well as deserted roads.
He also held meeting with religious scholars and leaders of the town and briefed them about the plan. They assured him of their cooperation.
Lyari TPO Shahnawaz Khan told newsmen at his office on Sunday that a network of informers had been laid in the limits of all four police stations of the town while police contingents had been deployed at different places to foil any sabotage bid.
Besides, he said, certain measures taken under this plan had been kept secret.
The Gulshan-i-Iqbal police also started snap checking in the area to combat the crimes.
To avert any untoward incident of terrorism or public disorder in the province during Ramazan, Sindh IGP Jahangir Mirza had directed the CCPO Karachi, RPOs of Hyderabad and Sukkur, high officials of Special Branch and CID as well as DIG Traffic to enhance security and traffic arrangements besides exercising high vigilance.
In his directives, the IGP stressed that elaborate security arrangements should be ensured at mosques, Imambargahs and seminaries.
At prayer timings, particularly Fajr and Taraveeh, the entrances to the mosques and Imambargahs should be guarded jointly by the police and private security personnel, the IGP said adding that the management of mosques and Imambargahs should be briefed by SDPO/SHO concerned to keep watch on any suspicious element.
The activities of militant and sectarian organizations should be kept under constant watch while the CCPO, RPOs, DPOs and TPOs shall maintain close contact with Special Branch and other intelligence agencies and shall keep the PPO abreast of the situation.
Jahangir Mirza also directed that as a measure of enhanced security and vigilance, regular snap checking should be arranged by the CCPO and RPOs in their respective jurisdictions and in pursuance of this, the DPOs and TPOs should chalk out a plan. Time and place of snap checking should be communicated to SDPOs/SHOs daily and ground checks should be made personally to get positive results.
He directed that a comprehensive traffic management plan should also be chalked out. “Identification of choke points should be made with alternate routes/diversion and such points should be bolstered by extra manpower,” he emphasised.
He called for reactivating Rahnuma-915 in Karachi. He also instructed for updating websites for providing advance information to citizens during rush hours. All traffic information should be publicized in media.—PPI
