KARACHI, Sept 24: Bandits took away 19 vehicles and 57 cellphones from different parts of the city on Sunday. Police sources said that three cars and seven motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint while five cars and four motorcycles were reported stolen in different areas.
As many as 57 people were deprived of their mobile phones on Sunday.
According to police sources, 29 cellphone sets were snatched at gunpoint and 23 were stolen while five cell phones were reported missing.
FIRE: A fire broke out in a factory in Sanaullah Mills in Site early on Sunday morning.
The chief fire officer said that fire had broken out around 4am. Its information was provided by a nearby company.
Subsequently, when firemen reached the spot, flames were leaping up to the sky, the CFO called in all the fire tenders from the city. Two fire tenders of Pakistan Navy and KPT were also dispatched.
“Fire had broken out at the first floor of the factory where blankets and raw material was stored,” the CFO said adding there was no fire fighting arrangement in the factory.
The fire was brought under control by 7 am.
HIGHWAY BLOCKED: Enraged people on Sunday blocked the National Highway near Gharo against the arrest of a youth in Gharo, PPI adds.
They set ablaze tyres and blocked the highway suspending the traffic for three hours.
The protesters said that personnel of a law enforcing agency picked up Wajahat Nazir during a raid at his house. When the area people approached the concerned police station, police expressed ignorance about the incident. Subsequently, they blocked the National Highway by putting obstacles on the road and chanted slogans against local police.
In the meantime, Taluka Nazim Abdul Ghani and TPO Gul Abbas reached the spot and assured their full support after which they called off their three-hour-long protest.
