KARACHI, Sept 24: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that a concrete strategy has been devised to curb crime across the province, prompt completion of uplift works, smooth flow of traffic during Ramazan and foolproof security at places of worship and shopping areas.
He was talking to newsmen while visiting different parts of the city on Sunday night along with Adviser on Home Affairs Waseem Akhter, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, DG Rangers Maj Gen Javed Zia, IGP Jehangir Mirza and other officials to inspect pace of work on development projects.
The areas visited by the governor included Hino Chowk, Korangi Industrial Area, 8,000 Feet Road, Jamia Darul Uloom, Quaidabad, Landhi, Nazimabad, Malir, Orangi, Gadap, Gulberg, Baldia, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Liaqatabad, Nazimabad, Jamshed Quarters and Saddar.
He inspected the work under way at the sites of underpasses, flyovers and sewerage systems. He also inspected the road-building and carpeting work being carried out at different places to ensure a smooth flow of vehicular traffic during Ramazan.
He was informed that carpeting and repair work on 11 driveways identified by the traffic police as bottlenecks had been expedited while work on the remaining 18 roads would be completed within the next two days.
He noted that one track of the Nazimabad and Gharibabad underpasses would be opened to traffic by next week resulting in easing of traffic pressure between SITE and Hassan Square. He said clear instruction had been given to traffic police across the province for ensuring a smooth flow of traffic.
About steps towards price control, he said that besides deployment of magistrates, arrangements in this regard were also being made at the level of town administrations, which would also cooperate in regulating traffic.
Dr Ibad held out the assurance that strict action would be taken against those found indulging in profiteering and hoarding, adding that identification of responsibilities of the concerned authorities and officials has been made in this regard. He hoped that overall situation would emerge satisfactory with the cooperation of people.
Security arrangements are being made for religious gatherings, including Shabina and Taraveeh, in a peaceful environment. The governor hoped that people would also play their due role in keeping a watch on the overall situation.
The police and administration have made special security arrangements for protecting the life and property of citizens during Eid shopping. These include setting up of helplines and centres, besides patrolling by police personnel.
Regarding the new strategy to combat street crime, he said action would be initiated against the elements involved in criminal activities without any discrimination and regardless of any pressure.
Referring to the development projects in other parts of Sindh, he stressed upon their completion within the stipulated time and maintaining standards and quality.
Nazims of various towns and union councils briefed the governor about the conditions in their respective areas.—PPI/APP
