Belgian official murdered in Delhi

BRUSSELS: A Belgian woman working at the country’s embassy to India was killed in New Delhi on Saturday night, the Belgian foreign ministry said on Sunday.

Spokesman Rudy Huygelen said the woman, aged 47, was a Secretary and her body had been found dead at a private house.

“I can confirm that the woman was apparently murdered last night,” he said. “We regret very much what happened.”

In New Delhi, police officials were not immediately available for comment.

Local media reports and television channels identified the woman as Isabelle Dessoy. Press Trust of India news agency said she had been stabbed 22 times. The independent New Delhi Television channel said her chauffeur, the main suspect in the murder, was being questioned by police.—AP
