LAHORE, Sept 23: Pakistan, putting up a dismal show in their Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group-I play-off against China, bore the ignominy of being relegated to Group II at the hard courts of Beijing Tennis Centre on Saturday.
China took an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the contest by winning both the singles as duo Xin-Yuan Yu and Shao Xuan Zeng defeated Pakistani pair of Aisamul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan in straight sets 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
Earlier on Friday, Aqeel Khan lost the first singles to Yu Wang 3-1. Wang won 6-1, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
In the second singles, Aisam went down fighting to Peng Sun in five sets 3-6, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3, 8-6. In the reverse singles on Sunday, Yu Wang is scheduled to meet Aisam while Peng Sun faces Aqeel.—Sports Correspondent
