KARACHI, Sept 23: The centralised admission committee of the Sindh Education department has not been able to select about 3,777 applicants who had desired admissions in the commerce faculty of various city colleges due to absence of related facilities.
Placement lists of 15,723 male students for admission to Commerce first year classes at 49 colleges and higher secondary schools were issued by the chairman of the Centralised Admission Policy (CAP) committee-2006 on Saturday.
According to a senior official of the Provincial Education Manager (Colleges) office, originally 14,440 seats were allocated for male students in the commerce faculty, which were raised up to 16,610 in view of the number of applications received for admissions.
After enhancing the seats for commerce students at colleges where things were technically feasible and management was possible, all applicants who passed their matriculation examinations in A-1, A, B, C and D grades have been included in the admission lists, while the remaining applicants will be tried for admissions to Humanities faculty, added the official, saying the number of applicants for commerce classes has been on the rise during the last couple of years.
However, according to official records, colleges where admissions have been offered much below the capacity included Degree Commerce College Malir-30 against 300 available seats, Liaquat College Malir-94/150, Allama Iqbal College (evening) 90/200, Government College Razzaqabad-48/200, Degree College Quaidabad-51/100 and Degree College Shamspir 22/100.
A maximum of 813 students have been placed at Islamia Arts and Commerce College, followed by Premier College (786) and Islamia Arts and Commerce College-evening (713).
The maximum (opening) and minimum (closing) marks in the commerce admission list for males in different institutions are as follows:
