ISLAMABAD, Sept 22: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that federal, provincial and district governments have equally shouldered the responsibility of rehabilitating the rain-hit people in Sindh, and that the rural areas of the province are being given special attention.
Talking to Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecom Ishaq Khakwani and District Nazim Kashmor Saleem Jan Mazari, who called on him at the Prime Minister House here on Friday, Mr Aziz appreciated the role of Pakistan Army in carrying out relief operations in the rain-hit areas.
He said the federal government had so far dispatched 45,000 bags of food and other relief goods to the affected people, and the army did the job of evacuating the stranded people on boats and provided them medical supplies.
“The government is giving special attention to the rural areas of Sindh,” said the prime minister.
Because of the environment created by the government, the agricultural production had increased, and the country had become self-sufficient in essential crops, he said.
“The provision of clean drinking water as well as education and healthcare facilities in rural areas all over the country is government’s top priority,” he said.
The IT minister updated the prime minister on various initiatives taken by his ministry.
The Kashmor district nazim also briefed the prime minister about the development schemes in his district and thanked the federal government for launching welfare projects in Kashmor.
Meanwhile talking to Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Secretary General of Pakistan Muslim League who called on him at the PM House, the prime minister said that President Musharraf’s visit to Cuba and the US would help project Pakistan’s true image abroad, highlight the critical role being played by it for global and regional peace and further promote foreign investment in the country.
