LAHORE, Sept 22: An accountability court on Friday accepted unconditional apology of DSP (judicial) Shafiq Ahmad Bajwa.
The DSP had misbehaved with accused Arshad Ali, the former director of the defunct Services Credit Cooperative Corporation Limited (SCCCL), in the court.
The court had summoned the DSP for explanation as to why the police did not provide force to accompany the accused for medical examination.
The DSP appeared before the court and stated that the police always provided guards to jail authorities. The officer got infuriated and threatened accused Arshad with dire consequences when the latter contested his claim.
Taking a serious notice of the DSP’s conduct, the court served on him a show-cause notice.
The DSP said that he might receive the show-cause notice, but he would not file reply. The judge ordered the accountability courts registrar to take the DSP into custody and issued him a contempt of court notice.
The judge also summoned SP (judicial) who, along with a senior lawyer, appeared and sought an unconditional apology on behalf of the DSP.
The judge accepted his apology and ordered the release of the DSP with a warning to remain careful in future.
Accused Arshad Ali had filed an application for his medical check-up which the court accpted. Later, he complained that he was not sent for the same despite a court order. —APP
