By-polls in Balochistan postponed

Published September 23, 2006

QUETTA, Sept 22: By-elections on one National Assembly and two Balochistan Assembly seats, scheduled to be held on November 2, have been postponed on the request of the provincial government which considers that the law and order situation in the province is not fit for holding polls.

An official handout issu-

ed by the provincial election commission here on Thursday stated that the schedule announced for by-polls for NA-269 Khuzdar, PB-4 Quetta-IV and PB-35 Khuzdar-III seats has been withdrawn.

The new schedule would be announced later.

The mentioned seats fell vacant after the resignations of Abdul Rauf Mengal from the National Assembly and Akhtar Hussain Lango and Mir Akbar Mengal from the Balochistan Assembly.

The three Balochistan National Party-Mengal members had resigned in protest against the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti.
