PESHAWAR, Sept 21: A meeting of the provincial programme review and coordination committee of the Access to Justice Programme in NWFP reviewed the progress of reforms being implemented.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, the meeting was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastagir Akbar and attended by the implementing agencies of the AJP, including the Peshawar High Court, the Law Department, Home Department, Police Department, Prosecution Department and Prisons Department.

Provincial Programme Manager Tariq Sohail and secretaries of planning and development and finance also attended the meeting.

The programme manager gave an overview of the activities under the AJP while chief of the Planning Department gave details of individual projects.

Mr Dastagir Akbar expressed satisfaction over the completed and ongoing projects of the Peshawar High Court and the Prosecution Department but expressed displeasure over the pace of work in the law, police and prisons departments. He issued directions for deletion of certain projects and re-prioritisation of others keeping in view budgetary constraints.

He directed the police department to submit revised PC-I of “district headquarters offices for SP/DSPs Investigation and criminal record offices in the 17 districts of the NWFP” to the P & D Department within three days.

He also expressed his concern over non-completion of some projects of the home department and directed the chief engineer (works and services) to ensure that these projects were completed during the current financial year.

He also directed that physical and financial progress of all the ongoing projects should be assessed in a meeting to be chaired by the secretary works and services department.

He also asked the programme manager to liaise with all the concerned to get the latest information regarding implementation of pending policy actions in the province, which are to be fulfilled for facilitating release of the last instalment of US$80 million by the Asian Development Bank.

He will again review the progress in a meeting to be held in the 2nd week of October.
