KARACHI: Four awarded death for kidnapping

KARACHI, Sept 21: Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the Anti-terrorism Court No 5 sentenced four men to death in a kidnapping for ransom case on Thursday.

The judge also sentenced Asif Ali, Ali Raza, Faisal Ansari and Qaiser alias Kala to suffer a five-year term for creating terror in society by kidnapping Safdar Hussain and his son Zulfiqar Ali for ransom.

The four were arrested by the Garden police in another case. During interrogation, they disclosed that they had been involved in the kidnapping of Safdar Hussain.

According to the prosecution, the accused kidnapped the victims on March 26, 2005 in Bahadurabad.

They initially demanded Rs5 million for the release of the victims, but released them after receiving Rs200,000.

Special public prosecutor Mazhar Qayyum examined in all 12 prosecution witnesses.

The judge also ordered the confiscation of the accused’s properties worth Rs100,000 each for the crime of kidnapping for ransom.
