KARACHI, Sept 19: A two-member delegation will represent Pakistan at this week’s ICC World Cup 2007 managers’ meeting in Bridgetown (Barbados). Asad Mustafa, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s general manager logistics, left on Monday for Bridgetown where he will be joined by Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer for the two-day moot which starts on Thursday.

The managers’ meeting has been convened by the International Cricket Council to apprise representatives of all 16 participating teams with the guidelines for next year’s World Cup in the West Indies.

A PCB spokesman told Dawn on Tuesday that the ICC World Cup 2007 organisers have been holding a series of meetings featuring over 400 people from more than 60 countries.

“Basically, the organisers want to ensure an incident-free World Cup unlike the previous event in South Africa in 2003 when the ambush marketing and some other issues marred the tournament,” spokesman Subhan Ahmed explained.

He said that Pakistan had some time ago nominated Asad and Woolmer to attend the meeting.

“At this point of time we are not sure who will be named as Pakistan manager at the World Cup.

“But the PCB decided to send Asad for the meeting since he was the assistant manager for the recent England tour and would be in a better position to discuss the issues with the organisers,” he added.

Subhan said that the main agenda at the coming moot are mostly logistics.

“Issues concerning each participating team like accommodation, food, doping tests, travelling arrangements, cricketing facilities for warm-up matches and the tournament itself plus other related topics will be discussed and finalized,” he stressed.

The World Cup is scheduled to start from March 13 with hosts West Indies taking on Pakistan in the opening fixture in Kingston, preceded by the opening ceremony two days earlier at the same venue.
