HYDERABAD: Water still stagnating in Latifabad: MMA

HYDERABAD, Sept 19: The president of the Sindh chapter of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, has said that rainwater is still standing on roads, streets and houses in Latifabad taluka although 12 days have passed since the rainfall.
Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Tuesday, he said that the district administration had failed to drain out water from the taluka and stagnant water had made the lives of people miserable.
MMA district president Maulana Waheed Qureshi and Jamaat-i-Islami leader Shaikh Shoukat Ali were also present on the occasion.
He said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was responsible for the miseries of people as it was ruling over the district and was a coalition partner in provincial and federal governments.
He said that the district nazim and the Latifabad taluka nazim should accept their responsibility and resign from the posts.
He said that the Sindh governor had failed to visit the city which was completely inundated under rainwater.
He criticised the authorities for filing FIRs against affected people who had held demonstrations in protest against the accumulation of dirty water in their localities.
He demanded that all such cases should be immediately withdrawn as people had the constitutional and democratic right to protest.
He demanded that the NAB should be directed to hold an inquiry against the inefficient district administration.
He condemned the attack on Naimatullah Khan in Hyderabad by terrorists.
He said that the former nazim of Karachi had come here to distribute relief goods among rain-hit people.
He demanded that an inquiry should also be held into alleged misuse of funds and added that all the roads had been washed away due to the use of substandard material.
He said that it was an irony that while Hyderabad had drowned, the MQM was wasting money on the birthday celebrations of Altaf Hussain.
He also criticised the federal government for not handing over the administration of the district to the army and added that had the army been put in command, the situation today would have been quite different.
