Kuwait MP criticises HR report

By Our Correspondent

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 19: A member of Kuwait’s parliament, Mohammad Al-Khalifa, has charged that international organisations’ reports on Kuwait’s human rights situation is ‘exaggerated’ and unfair.

According to reports, Al-Khalifa, who is also a member of a human rights committee in the assembly, was speaking at the committee meeting which was also attended by a representative of the United States embassy.

Al-Khalifa, while criticising the United States for abusing human rights and asking others to respect it, said that Kuwaiti authorities were striving to protect manpower and safeguard their dignity.

He said the National Assembly supported the new draft labour law which would help eliminate problems faced by the expatriates.

He said the new draft law accorded a number of new rights to labourers in the private sector.
