ISLAMABAD, Sept 18: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday reiterated the government’s commitment to pass the Protection of Women’s Rights bill and said that it was holding consultations with all stakeholders.
He was addressing a meeting attended by cabinet ministers, president of the ruling PML Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and chairman of the National Assembly’s standing committee on Kashmir Affairs, Hamid Nasir Chattha at his chamber in the Parliament House on Monday.
The prime minister said the bill would be in total conformity with the precepts of Holy Quran and Sunnah, adding that it would safeguard the women’s rights.
He said as part of the democratic process, the bill would go through the parliamentary process of deliberations and consultations before its formal presentation before parliament.
The prime minister said the government was fully committed to uplifting the status of women in society and it will ensure passage of appropriate legislation to provide empowerment as well as security and equitable justice to women.
