Tabulation committee finally wakes up

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Sept 18: The tabulation committee of the 2nd Inter-provincial games finally woke up from its slumber to show some activity on Monday, the last day of the three-day gala.

The committee, headed by Jamil Rana, remained absent on the first two days of the games, causing great hardship to the mediamen in compiling their reports about the day-to-day medal position of the participating provinces.

At the Olympics, the Asian Games, Afro-Asian and other sports galas, the organisers always make special arrangements to keep the media well informed about the latest updates and position of every country.

But in Pakistan the tabulation committees have always failed to meet the required standard even at National Games which is the most prestigious sports event on the circuit.

The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) have been organising a number of administrative courses in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee to prepare a good number of sports administrators, but the performance of many sports associations in the ongoing event shows such courses are pure waste of money or only serve to oblige some blue eyed administrators.

Various associations of Punjab which are conducting their respective events are sending hand-written results to the media center which is, of course, quite cumbersome.

When grilled on the issue, the organising secretary of the games, Idris Haider Khawaja who is also secretary Punjab Olympic Association, made a lame excuse that the tabulation committee was busy in organising the ‘Fun Run’ which was held here on Sunday.
