TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 18: The ruling and opposition benches held separate meetings of the house on Monday with the claim that they had held lawful meetings with complete quorum.
The ruling group held its meeting with 18 members. But, tehsil naib nazim, belonging to MNA Amjad Warraich group, did not preside over the meeting. Instead it was presided by Mian Islam Abid.
The house adopted a resolution in which the proposed change in route of M-4 motorway project was condemned. The house demanded to construct the road according to its approved route.
A resolution demanded immediate transfer of Gojra tehsildar Sanaullah. Tehsil nazim Asad Zaman Cheema, TMO and other officials also attended this meeting.
Later, the opposition held its meeting with 15 members which was presided over by naib nazim Mian Ahsan Akbar. The meeting disapproved six items on agenda which were approved in ruling group meeting.
Meanwhile, in a press conference tehsil nazim Asad Cheema and TMO Malik Abdul Sattar claimed that the meeting held by the opposition was illegal as at least 18 members’ attendance was mandatory for any meeting of the house while opposition had only 15 members in its meeting.
CASE REGISTERED: Gojra city police registered a case on the orders of district and sessions judge against DSP Mahmood Sardar, SHO Arif Wattoo and 12 policemen on Monday.
Complainant Sher Muhammad of Chak 315 JB had moved the court submitting that his two relatives Shahbaz and Ashraf were arrested by the accused without any case against them. A court bailiff had recovered them from police station and the court had ordered registration of case.
SUICIDE: An 18-year-old girl committed suicide in Chamra Mandi here on Monday. Sidra Salim was disappointed when her engagement was broken a few days ago.
She hanged herself with a rope tied to the ceiling fan of her room.
APPOINTMENT: Punjab Forest Minister Dr Ashfaqur Rehman awarded appointment letters to 58 educators in a function in government secondary school here on Monday.
He claimed that all appointments had been made on merit.
District nazim Abdul Sattar stated that appointments would be made on merit.
