KHAR, Sept 18: The government will spend Rs700 million on development projects in health, communication and education sectors during the current financial year in Bajaur Agency.

Speaking at a press conference in Khar on Monday, the agency’s Political Agent Muhammad Fahim Wazir said that Rs560 million had been allocated under the annual development programme while Rs140 million development funds had been received under a special package.

He said that the law and order situation in the agency bordering Afghanistan was normal and nobody would be allowed to create lawlessness in the area.

Mr Wazir said major chunk of the 2006-07 development programme would be spent on construction of new roads while the health and education sectors had also been given priority. Construction of road from Khar to Nawagai and Loy Sam to Nawa Pass (Afghan border), he said, had been included in the ADP.

Bajaur Agency was an agrarian area and the administration would focus on this sector, he said, adding that an amount of Rs74 million had been earmarked for the agriculture sector.

Mr Wazir said that two new dams would be constructed in the agency while work on Tali Dam would be completed soon. The proposed Raghgan Dam would not only facilitate agriculture sector but would also generate electricity.
