KARACHI: Spelling Bee: Nine qualify for final contest on 23rd

KARACHI, Sept 18: As many as nine students from city schools qualified for the final round of the third “Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee” championship as the Karachi city competitions concluded on Monday.The finals at Islamabad are scheduled to be held on September 23.

About 42 teams from schools located in the Karachi region participated on Monday’s city finals, which was organised in collaboration with the British Council Pakistan said a coordinator for the competitions.

The winners of the Karachi city finals were:

9-11 age group: Ali Shambeel Jafri of Springfield School.

12-14 age group: Sarib Hussain of St Patrick’s High School.

15-17 age group: Sakina Shah of Bahria College, Girls wings.

The runners-up in the three categories of competitions were as follows:

9-11 age group: Ehsanullah Khan of St Paul’s English High School and Uzair Nadeem of Springfield School.

12-14 age group: Ralph Martins of St Patrick’s High School and Sughra Shah of Bahria College (Girls Wing).

15-17 age group: Ayesha Shafiq and Javaria Siddiqui, both of the Bahria College (Girls Wing).

The pronouncers and judges of Monday’s competitions were Marcus Gilbert, Sadia Butt and Sue Gilbert while

Jenefir Sunil, Noreen Edison, Rahim Artani, Ali Chauhan and Nabeel Alvi were the judges of the event.

Plaques were awarded to the successful contestants at the end of every session.
