Perwani outclasses Imran

KARACHI, Sept 17: Defending champion Naveen Perwani conjured up a splendid break of 140, highest of the competition, in his 5-1 triumph against Imran Shahzad as former world champion Mohammad Yousuf leads with 20 points in the 20th Latif Masters snooker tournament which reached halfway on Sunday.

Yousuf, who the other day secured 10 points from two games, doubled the tally beating Rambel Gul and Mohammad Asif by identical margins of 4-2.

Following on his heels is the reigning national champion Khurram Agha with 19 points. In the first match, Khurram conceded two frames before chalking up 4-2 win over Asif while in the next he got the better of Rambel by similar scoreline.

Naveen was held to a 3-3 draw by Sohail Shahzad and recovered to post a commendable 5-1 win over Imran in the two matches on the second day to take his tally to 15 points. He shone in the last frame against Imran by making a clearance of 140.

According to the format, one point is awarded to a player on winning a frame in addition to a bonus point for winning the match.

Top two players securing highest points at the end of round robin league will qualify for the final to be played on Tuesday.
