Punjab continue their dominance in Provincial Games

By Mohammad Yaqoob

LAHORE, Sept 17: Defending champions Punjab with a tally of 59 gold medals were well on course to win the 2nd Inter-provincial games on the penultimate day of the competition on Sunday.

Punjab dominated the athletics event as they clinched 17 out of the 19 gold medals on offer.

Eight more finals will be held on Monday, the last day of the event.

In other disciplines, Punjab claimed seven golds in wrestling, six in gymnastics, five in swimming, four each in wushu and cycling, three apiece in bodybuilding and weightlifting, one in table tennis, two in judo and table tennis and another five in taekwondo.

Meanwhile, the organisers could face trouble in finalising the final position for the second consecutive day no members of the tabulation committee reported at the National Hockey Stadium.

When contacted, a member of the committee on the condition of anonymity said that they were not reporting because the organizers did not give protocol to the president of POA, Syed Arif Hasan, during the opening ceremony on Saturday night.

He added the attitude of the organisers was not friendly towards the tabulation committee when they held the first edition.
