Pope remarks criticized

Published September 18, 2006

ISLAMABAD, Sept 17: Convenor of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, AJK chapter, and Chairman Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League Muhammad Farooq Rehmani has strongly condemned derogatory remarks of Pope Benedict XVI about Islam and Jihad.

He termed the remarks as irresponsible, provocative and baseless saying that he had opened an inglorious chapter in the history of Vatican and he should admit his ignorance about Islam and offer his apologies.

In a statement, he justified worldwide protest against the remarks of the Vatican Head and called upon UN Secretary General to take note of such comments, which could damage good relations between Muslims and Christians.
