MANSEHRA, Sept 17: Saudi Arabia will continue to provide assistance for rehabilitation of survivors of last year’s earthquake till the task is completed. This was stated by Saeed Al-Hadad, director of the Saudi Public Relation department, at a ceremony organised by the Al-Hubaib Foundation at Atar Sheesha here on Sunday.
Mr Al-Hadad said the Saudi government and people were with the Pakistani brethren in this hour of trial.
He said a package of relief goods would be provided to quake survivors during Ramazan.
He said the Al-Hubaib Foundation would award 10,000 sponsorships to needy children. The foundation has already granted 2000 sponsorships to orphans.
Mr Al-Hadad said he was visiting quake-affected areas on the special instruction of the Saudi government, Interior Minister Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz and Ambassador to Pakistan Saeed Ali Awadh Asseri to assess needs of the people in quake-ravaged areas.
Camp in-charge Fayyaz Akbar told the gathering that such camps had been established particularly for widows and orphans.
He said trained teachers had been appointed so that children could continue their studies.
Chaudhry Nadeem, coordinator of the Al-Hubaib Foundation, said 10,000 pre-fabricated shelter-homes would be built in the area before winter with the assistance of Saudi Arabia.
Besides, 300 schools would be established, which would later be handed over to the government, he said.
On this occasion, Mr Al-Hadad distributed 500 hundred beds, stoves and sheets among widows and orphans.
He also visited relief camps established by Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
KILLED: A taxi driver was stabbed to death here on Sunday and the body of a man was found hanging on a tree.
According to police, taxi driver Safdar Khan, resident of Potah, was stabbed to death by unidentified people in the jurisdiction of the Saddar police.
Police have taken his body into custody.
Meanwhile, the body of Mohammad Zaman, resident of Dhora Bandihal Thakra, was found hanging on a tree near the Wapda office on Chakyar road in the jurisdiction of the Thana City police.—app
