Defence needs to be fully met: PM


ISLAMABAD, Sept 17: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said the government will continue to provide all necessary resources to the armed forces and further strengthen defence of the country to ensure peace in the region.

Talking to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Ehsan ul Haq at the PM House on Saturday, the prime minister said Pakistan was a peaceful country and did not have aggressive designs against anyone.

He said Pakistan believed that peace was achieved through strength, not weakness, and as a responsible nuclear state, it adhered to the doctrine of minimum credible deterrence to ensure peace in the region.

The PM said government believed in impregnable defence through economic sovereignty, smooth political process, good governance and friendly international environment to protect Pakistan’s integrity and solidarity.

General Ehsanul Haq apprised the prime minister of upgradation and modernisation of the armed forces and various other professional matters.—APP
