First the attackers targeted a woman, Lal Bano, 40, while she was offering Fajr prayers. The accused shot her on the neck, killing her on the spot. On hearing the sound of gunfire, the family members woke up and rushed to the place where the culprits were ready to ambush their targets.
The culprits opened indiscriminate fire on Sitar Bibi, 20, her husband Gul Mohammad, Abdullah, Ahsanullah and Muhibullah. Some other family members, including minors and teenagers, remained in their room after hearing the gunfire.

The Bhara Kahu police registered a case against the unidentified killers on the complaint of Faqirullah, son of Lal Bano, who told the police that he only saw a car when the murderer fled from his house.
Police said the deceased belonged to Bajaur Agency and there was a possibility that the incident was a result of old enmity. However, the complainant did not identify anyone. During the time of the incident, the entire family, except Lal Bano, was sleeping in the house. The residents did not lock the doors of the room and this made them easy target.
