KARACHI: City finals of Spelling Bee contest today

KARACHI, Sept 17: The Karachi city finals of the third “Dawn in Education-National Spelling Bee” competition for school students will be held in the Bahria Auditorium on Sept 18. There are 42 teams in the run.
A coordinator for the competitions at Karachi said that 14 school teams would take part in each of the three-age group competition, while top three individuals of each category would move to Islamabad, where the national finals will be held on Sept 23.
In the meantime, on the seventh day of competitions, another six teams qualified through preliminary rounds for the city finals on Sunday.
The pronouncers of the Sunday events were: David Taylor and Sue Gilbert, while Seema Khan, Urooj Dar, Ali Chauhan, Ather Kamal and Sami Khan were the judges on the occasion.
The winning teams were: 9-11 age group; Syed Shabbir Ali Rizvi, Ali Ahmed Khan and Shayan of City School (Prep Boys PECHS) and Syeda Umama Rahman and Rajaa Fatima Younus of Mama Parsi Girls Secondary School. 12-14 age group; Huma Baqir, Uroojun Nisa Usmani and Iqra Nehal of Mama Parsi Girls Secondary School and Zoha Zainuddin, Hareem Zakir, Madiha Rafi of Usman Public School (Campus-6).
15-17 age group; Fatima Ahmed, Rumsha Junaid and Zahra Moiz of Mama Parsi Girls Secondary School and Ghizal Fatima, Arham Usmani and Mubashira Irshad of Generations School.
