KARACHI, Sept 17: Majority of the position holders of the HSC exams were of the view that male students had been failing to excel in education as they did not concentrate on their studies and did not realize the fact that education up to graduate level gave them the confidence needed for entering the professional world and making them acceptable as educated persons as per the international standards.
There are many things, including media and internet, economical gains and political jargons, to detract them but they should realize that matriculation, intermediate or bachelor examinations were the gateways to knowledge, without which life could not be led successfully, they added.
Umm-i-Aiman, who secured first position in HSC (pre-engineering) said that she wanted to become a telecommunication engineer or join the PAF.
About the educational standards, curriculum and books, she opined that the contents given to the students at SSC level should be updated and improved in order to reduce the gap between intermediate and matriculation levels of education.
Parents should pay serious attention towards the education of their male wards and resist them indulging in unwanted habits, she added.
Another position holder of pre-engineering group, Mohammad Hassam said that positions could not be achieved without hard work and devotion, while guidance from teachers and parents was also a must.
He said that he had been achieving first position in examinations right from Class-I.
Hassam, who wanted to do his bachelors in electrical engineering, said that bringing the male folks back to education would not be a difficult job, as it needed preparedness and willingness on the part of boys first, which constituted a part of the Students-teachers and parents trio suggested for education.
Sana Siddiqui of the St Joseph’s College and aspiring to become an electronics engineer complained that the standard of education and faculty had decayed drastically at colleges since their denationalisation, which could be attributed to the fact that generally the teachers were simply master degree holders with negligible experience of classroom lecturing and science demonstration.
In the Science General group the first and second positions were secured by twins Hina Mohammad Yasin and Sana Mohammad Yasin.
Both were expecting first position, particularly after Class XI results, but there was no rivalry between them and they shared the notes and prepared for the examination solely under the supervision of their college teachers, said one of the sisters, Hina.
Hina, who like many others had a craze of computer education a couple of years back but now had change her mind and wanted to become an interior designer. She said that frequent power failures, traffic congestions, poor drainage system were the issued needed to be addressed by the authorities concerned on priority basis in the city.
