LAHORE, Sept 16: Three-year-old bay colt Quince, who registered a facile victory last month, will be on the trot to repeat it when the third day/night Lahore Winter Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Quince had convincingly won the class V division I handicap race on Aug 27 last and been promoted to class IV division III. Among his six rivals the notable are: Golden Goal and Jut Bahadur, who should make his task difficult. This will be the fifth and supporting event to be gone over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres.

The feature event, the Barisal Plate class IV division I and II to be gone over the distance of 1200 metres has six contestants, if there are not last-minute withdrawals.

Of them only two come into reckoning on recent performance and showing in races, namely, Harry Can View and My Own Job. The former on handicap enjoys an edge in this sixth and last race of the day.

Three-year-old colt, War Admiral, who had to his credit a fluent victory Sunday last will be going all out to make it two in-a-row. In a 16-strong field for class V division II, War Admiral may face a little challenge from Moon Dazzler and Shaba Queen, if she takes a level start. This will be the third race in racing order.

The owner of War Admiral, Shafiq Sadiq, however is not satisfied with the colt's positioning at the top of handicap at nine stones two pounds and submitted a written appeal to the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards for a review. The appeal will be put up before stewards prior to race on Sunday.

The owner's plea is that the cold had scored career's first win carrying 8-10 and now given two extra pounds. He prays that two extra pounds be waived to place the colt at 9-0 in weight scales. The colt is under training of jockey turned trainer, Memraiz Khan.

Four-year-old filly Jago, who was placed third behind War Admiral and new Bhakkar should make amends this time and win the second race. High Hope, Tosca and Bachelor should contest for less remunerative positions.

Cherry's Own, Bahar-e-Bhakkar and Dashing Paradise are the pick of eleven contestants in the opener. Any one of them should win the race.

The fourth race comprises 18 runners, who include at least eight good sprinters. If there are no last-minute withdrawals, this race may result in a thrilling finish and contrary to wishes of the backers.

The best on form and timing are Daisy Against All, Sohna Billoo, Al Ain and Trump Coup. The winner should be from them. The first race will be held at 5pm.
