SAHIWAL, Sept 16: On the orders of additional district and sessions judge, Farid Town police on Saturday registered a kidnap case after a lapse of about four and a half years.
Reports said Muhammad Ayub of Sahiwal along with his friend Muhammad Amin of Lahore returned to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia.
On April 3, 2002, Amin, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Sher Muhammad allegedly abducted Ayub on the pretext of purchasing a plot in Lahore for the latter.
Later, Ayub’s wife Farzana approached the police for registration of a kidnap case of her husband. On police’s refusal, she filed a writ petition with the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Syed Hamid Husain Shah who ordered registration of a case.
Police have registered the case under Section 364 of the PPC and arrested one of the accused — Sher Muhammad.
THREE KILLED: Three members of a family were killed while another suffered injuries in a road accident on GT Road near Iqbalnagar on Friday night.
Reports said Qasim Ali of Chak 123-7R along with his brother’s wife Afshan and her son Awais (1) was returning from Kassowal by their car (LH-5878) after consulting a doctor. Near Iqbalnagar, a front wheel of the vehicle opened and it struck against a tree. As a result of which they were killed while driver Mustafa sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital.
Kassowal police have registered a case.
PRAYER LEADERS: Police arrested five prayer leaders for delivering provocative speeches against the government here on Friday night.
Those arrested are: Maulana Arshad Ali and Maulvi Muhammad Alim of Chak 51/2-L mosques, Maulana Mashooq Ali of Chak 22/11-L, Maulana Haq Nawaz of Chichawatni and Maulana Muhammad Ramzan of Chak 120/9-L.
The prayer leaders were criticising the government for introducing Women Protection Bill (WPB) in the parliament.
Police have registered cases under Section 3-2/65 of Amplifier Act and sent them to central jail on judicial remand.
