KARACHI: Rs8.2 billion being spent on infrastructure development
KARACHI, Sept 16: Nazim Karachi Mustafa Kamal has said that Rs8.2 billion are being spent on infrastructure development in industrial areas, provision of basic facilities and utilities there, construction of roads and other development works.
Until few months back, there had been no concept of utilities, water and sewerage lines in these areas while today Rs 325 million are being spent on development of sewerage system in Landhi Industrial area and Rs 125 million on water supply.
He was speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of a treatment plant installed at a cost of Rs 200 million by private sector Gul Ahmed Textile Mills Landhi for treatment of industrial water.
The plant has the capacity of treating one million gallons of water used by industries daily.
Addressing the ceremony, the Nazim said no one paid attention on these areas in the past. But now due to our special attention, the industrial areas of Karachi would be totally changed in the next few months, equipped with modern facilities of international standard.
The City District Government, he informed, is constructing high quality ports to market roads.
He was confident that development of private sector would lead to development of the country and the province.
Nazim Karachi said every project is being initiated after full planning which will result in availability of long term facilities to citizens.
However, Mustafa Kamal said, the city government alone cannot do each and every thing and asked private sector to come forward and work for development under private-public partnership.
The Sindh industries minister also assured of all help and assistance whenever required by the private sector.
He informed that the Sindh Government has allocated Rs 250 million for development of Landhi-Korangi Industrial zone and Rs 500 million for SITE for infrastructure development and provision of facilities.—APP
