Majyd Aziz new KCCI president

KARACHI, Sept 16: Majyd Aziz has become new president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) for the next one year after beating independent candidate Zakariya Usman in the annual general election of the chamber held here on Saturday.

Majyd Aziz, a candidate for the ruling Businessmen Group (BMG) led by Siraj Kassam Teli, took 1,565 votes out of total 2,019, while Zakariya Usman got only 405 votes. Total invalid votes were 49.

Besides, all the BMG candidates grabbed 14 seats of the Managing Committee in which Mohammad Usman took the highest votes of 1,734 followed by Aamir Abdullah Zak 1,733 votes, Muzamil Hussain 1,733, M. Yunus 1,729, Arshad Islam 1,728, Altaf Majeed S.T. 1,727, Alamgir Khokar 1,726, Ovais Siddiq Jangda 1,723, Danish Saeed 1,723, Muhammad Idress 1,717, Kamran Ilahi 1,716, Mohammad Haroon Agar 1,715, Mohamamd Irfan 1,661 and Faisal Khalil Ahmed 1,737 votes.

Two independent candidates contesting for the managing committee seat -– Baikhalaq Hassan and Behzad Hassan Sheikh -- bagged 249 and 248 votes.
