India Colts crush Pakistan in U-19 Test


KARACHI, Sept 15: India Colts crushed their Pakistani counterparts by an innings and 240 runs in second and final 'Test' to sweep the under-19 cricket series 2-0 in Peshawar on Friday.

After compiling a mammoth 611 for nine, the Indian juniors dismissed Pakistan for 154 and 217 to complete the victory with a day to spare at the Arbab Niazi Stadium.

Resuming their first innings at overnight score of 109 for six on the third day of the four-day match, the hosts were done in by seamers Ishant Sharma (4-20) and Yo Mahesh (2-52), and leg-spinner captain Piyush Chawla (2-32).

The only solid innings came from Moinuddin who scored 53.

In the second innings, the Pakistan side were routed by left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem (3-53) and Chawla (3-72) while Sumeet Sharma also took 2 for 12.

Riaz Kail waged a valiant battle with a fighting 83 from 112 balls with 14 fours and a six. No. 10 batsman Raza Rehman remained unbeaten on a dour 48 from 87 balls while opener Shaan Masood made 27.

The Indian innings was based around a sparkling 220 by Tanmay Srivastava and 146 from skipper Chawla.

India won the first 'Test' in Rawalpindi by 271 runs. The teams now play a four-match one-day series from September 19 in Lahore. —PPI
