LAHORE, Sept 15: The ARD on Friday nominated Rana Tajammal its candidate for by-election on PP-157 (Lahore), which is due to be held on

Sept 30.

The MMA has also assured its support to the man who will face ruling PML’s Naveed Ashiq Dyal.

Rana had won the seat in the 2002 elections, but was disqualified recently on technical grounds by an election tribunal.

Punjab PPP president Qasim Zia, provincial PML-N president Zulfikar Khosa and others were present at a news conference to announce Rana’s nomination.

Zia said that PPP’s Babar Butt would withdraw his nomination papers on Saturday.

Khosa said MMA’s Liaquat Baloch had assured that the religious alliance would support the joint opposition’s candidate.

Zia told a questioner that opposition legislators would resign their seats jointly.

Lahore PPP president Haji Azizur Rehman Chan and PML-N MNA Khwaja Saad Rafiq were also present at the news conference.
