Kidney case accused acquitted

BAHAWALPUR, Sept 15: All the four accused of Yazman kidney case were acquitted by the district and sessions judge on Friday. The case was remanded by the Supreme Court in July last year to the sessions judge with a directive to decide it within three months.

Those acquitted are; Shahzad alias Shada, Ishaque, Boota and Dr Maj Khalid Farooq (retired). One of the accused, Nawaz alias Nikka, was declared proclaimed offender by the court.

The judge told Dawn that owing to lack of evidence, the accused were acquitted. He said 10 witnesses were examined.

According to prosecution, the accused took Amjad from his village to Rawalpindi where they removed one of his kidneys and promised to pay Rs75,000.

On his return to his native village he reported the matter to Yazman police which registered an FIR on August 10. Amjad’s father moved the apex court to expedite the trial. — Correspondent
