GUJRANWALA, Sept 14: Sanitary workers of Khiali Shahpur, Aroop, Nandipur and Qila Dedar Singh towns on Thursday took out a protest procession against non-payment of their two-month salaries.
Led by All Pakistan Local Government Workers Federation central information secretary Naseeruddin Humayun Malik, the protesters threatened to stage a sit-in outside the district council office if their salaries were not paid till Saturday (tomorrow).
Reports said since the cleanliness system had been transferred to the city district government by towns’ administration, the issue of the payment of salaries of sanitary workers could not be resolved. The towns’ administration had asked sanitary workers to move the CDG for payment of salaries, but the district government was of the view that sanitary men were on the pay roll of these towns.
