KARACHI: Number of city finalists reaches 24: Spelling Bee contest

KARACHI, Sept 14: After the fourth day of contests, the number of school teams qualified so far for Karachi city finals of the on-going third “Dawn in Education-National Spelling Bee” competitions reached a tally of 24 on Thursday.

The Karachi finals will be held on September 18 at the Bahria Auditorium, Karachi. The pronouncers of the fourth day competition of the spelling event were Yasmeen Lakhany, Sadia Butt and Sue Gilbert.

Judges of the competition on Thursday were: Sami Khan, Lionel D’Cruze, Hina Sajjad, Saira Saba, Ather Kamal and Ali Chauhan. The event is being held in collaboration with the British Council Pakistan, said a coordinator for the competition.

The following are the winning teams of Thursday:

9-11 age group; Adil Ali Abbasi, Qirat Alvi and Sana Ammad of Happy Home School (Matric-evening) and M. Usman Naseem, Danyal Tanveer and Warda Jawahir of Falconhouse Grammar School (Campus-3).

12-14 age group; Eliya Raza, Sughra Shah and Asma Ahmed of Bahria College (Girls wing) and Asad Zaidi, Bilal Ahmed Khan and Mohammad Baseem Sheikh of The City School, Darakhshan Campus A.

15-17 age group; Sakina Shah, Ayesha Shafiq and Javeria Siddiqui of Bahria College (Girls Wing) and Usman Hasan Khan, Habib Ali Khan and Fiza Baig of Hamdard Public School.
