KARACHI: Probe ordered into theft of vehicles

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 13: The city government’s fire brigade department has ordered an inquiry into theft of two vehicles of the city government from the premises of Civic Centre on Tuesday.

Terming the incident a major security lapse on the part of the security staff, sources in the city government said the chief security officer had reportedly attributed it to shortage of staff.

The sources said the chief security officer had earlier informed the district officer concerned that his department was understaffed as only 55 security personnel department were unable to perform their duties diligently.

Officials of the civil defense department said no appointment could be made in the security department against the vacant posts since long as the defunct KDA’s governing body had put a ban on fresh recruitment in the department.

Meanwhile, independent sources in the CDGK said the district officer is heavily occupied as he is also looking after the affairs of the CDGK’s HR department and performing as a focal person for rain emergencies.
