KARACHI: Four sectors of Taisar Town fully developed
KARACHI, Sept 12: Four sectors of the Taisar Town are fully ready now and the allottees can get possession of their plots for construction of houses. This was stated in a meeting of the Malir Development Authority held under the chairmanship of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday.
The meeting was told that infrastructure had been laid in sectors 11, 17, 9, and 2-A. The sectors had been fully developed and could be used for residential purposes.
City Nazim Mustafa Kamal said that all basic amenities of high quality would be provided in the MDA schemes including modern drainage system and underground concrete lines for electricity, gas and telephone lines. “We are planning for the provision of modern basic amenities so that whosoever will opt to live here could have distinct feeling of difference,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction over the pace of work and said that 60 per cent development work of Taisar Town had been completed. He said that besides basic amenities, other planning too would be carried out on modern footing. He informed that installation of electricity and gas supply lines would start next month for which talks were going on with the KESC and the SSGC.
He directed that a main gate be constructed at the point of entry into the town and all sectors be highlighted through a big map. He said that balloting of plots of 120, 200 and 400 sq yards would be held soon. He observed that none of the roads constructed in Taisar Town was damaged during the recent rains.
Mustafa Kamal said that refund of amount had started for those who did not succeed in the ballot for plots of 120sq-yards. He told the meeting that MDA revenues would be spent in a proper manner and a comprehensive programme for maintaining complete details of income and future planning would be chalked out in the next meeting of MDA’s governing body.
The nazim said that at present work was going on provision of various basic amenities on a 4,000-acre area of Taisar Town and over 70 contractors were engaged in the work. As regards consultancy, he said, quality was being accorded first priority.
Among others, the meeting was attended by DCO Fazlur Rehman, DG MDA Amirzada Kohati, MDA and city government officials and representatives of contractor firm.
KIHD: The nazim paid a surprise visit to the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases and checked attendance of staff. He visited various departments and inquired about the health of patients.
On the occasion, he was told that angiography of more than a dozen patients was being carried out daily while the number of patients in the OPD was more than 200 per day.
Meanwhile, Mustafa Kamal inaugurated the 63rd polio drive at Jamshed Town office on Monday.
He said that the city government had been paying special attention on health sector side by side the construction of roads and bridges and improvement of infrastructure for the last nine months.
He said that Rs3.5 billion had been allocated for health sector for the fiscal 2006-07 which was eight per cent of the total budget while over Rs1.19 billion was set aside for development in the health sector which was 90 per cent higher than the previous year. “Hopefully, the Karachi will be polio-free by the end of 2007,” he said.
Mr Kamal said that steps were being taken to make the life of common man easy and providing them all basic facilities.
During the last nine months, he said, basic changes had been brought in the health department and closed health institutions re-opened and Abbasi Shaheed, Spencer’s and Sarfraz Rafiqi Shaheed hospitals like institutions were a clear example of it. These institutions had practically closed down but the city government spent millions of rupees and made them operational which was a positive change.
In our medical institutions, he said, medicine stocks were available for the next one year while modern machinery had been provided and medical and paramedical staff was serving the people day and night.
He said it was a matter of delight that out of 23,000 reported polio cases, only 17 such cases existed now. He said if collective efforts were made by city government’s medical and paramedical staff, health workers, union and town councillors and all related institutions Karachi would be declared polio-free by the end of 2007. He asked the non-governmental organisations to play their due role in polio drives.
