LAHORE, Sept 11: Three-year-old chestnut colt First Look outpaced fifteen rivals to win the J.S. ABAMCO War Heroes Cup during the day/night Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Ridden confidently by jockey Shahid Rehman and trained by Haji Ghulam Sarwar, First Look was a 30 to 100 favourite.

He beat Golden Goal by four lengths. Charismatic failed to put a performance that was expected of him and came staggering behind to finish a bad third, three lengths further away while Royal Gambler completed the frame.

This was a class IV division II and III handicap race.

The winner clocked one min 27 2/5 seconds over the middle distance of 1400m.

The other JS ABAMCO War Heroes Cup for top division of class IV was annexed by Gold Krik in a run away style.

Short odds favourite at 15 to 100, the colt lived up to his reputation of a classic colt. He ended the winning streak of Discovery defeating her by three lengths. Jockey M. Hanif rode the son of Trace Creek.

Harry Can View and Valentine finished third and fourth, respectively.

There was a cup galore when six more cup events, named after recipients of Nishan-i-Haider, went through smoothly on a course glittering with full floodlights switched on.

The honoured war heroes were: Captain Mohammad Sarwar Shaheed, Major Mohammad Akram Shaheed, Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed, Major Mohammad Tufail Shaheed, Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed and Major Shabbir Sharif Sharif.

Jockey Shahid Rehman gave a dazzling display of saddle craft piloting home three winners. He began the day by lifting the Major Tufail Mohammad Shaheed Cup on Noor in the fourth race.

He then went on to win Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed Cup and the J.S. ABAMCO Cup on Nosha and First Look, respectively.

Jockey M. Hanif also brought in a brace of winners through Gorcee The Great and Gold Krik.

This is for the first time in the 82-year history of the Lahore Race Club that eight cups event were held in one day when at the best six or seven cup events were held.
