Sindh rains: PM orders provision of food, water


ISLAMABAD, Sept 11: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has directed the authorities concerned to take immediate measures in coordination with the provincial and district governments to arrange supply of food packets and clean drinking water to the people affected in the torrential rains and flooding in urban and rural Sindh.

He was talking to an MQM delegation that called on him in the Prime Minister’s House Monday afternoon to apprise him of the impact of the rains, especially in Hyderabad, Tando Jam, Tando Allah Yar, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Tando Mohammad Khan and Qasimabad.

The delegation comprised Muhammad Shamim Siddiqui, Minister for Communication, Syed Safwanullah, Minister for Housing and Works and MNA Dr Farooq Sattar.

Muhammad Ali Durrani, Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Sardar Nasrullah Dareshak, chief whip of the Pakistan Muslim League also attended the meeting.

The prime minister said that the army was providing assistance to the Sindh administration to meet the emergency situation.

He directed that the affected areas should be properly sprayed with medicines and people immunised to prevent spread of diseases.

Later, talking to Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on telephone, the PM assured him of all necessary help and assistance in rescue and rehabilitation of the affected people. —APP
