PARC pledges support for agro research

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 11: Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) will extend all possible assistance to the Centre for Agro-Informatics Research (CAIR) for the development of computer agro-technologies.

This was stated by PARC Chairman Dr Mohammad Ehsan Tusneem while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of a day- long workshop on “Agro-Informatics: The Future of Pakistan’s Agriculture”.

The workshop, organised by the CAIR, was participated by eminent agricultural scientists, industrialists, experts from PTCL, National University computer agro-technology experts and other stakeholders.

It is to be noted that the National University has set up the Centre for Agro-Informatics Research under the patronage Dr Amir Mohammad, an eminent agriculture scientist of international repute.

Dr Tusneem said our economy was based on agriculture and application of computer technology in this field would certainly help the farmers and other stakeholders. He said PARC would provide all possible assistance to the centre for development of such technologies to boost agricultural production and strengthen the national economy.

Earlier, FAST-National University Rector Dr Amir Mohammad said to keep pace with the existing agricultural developments going on around the world, Pakistan should have early warning systems so that precautionary measures could be taken before time to avoid losses.
