Reyan King stuns rivals at KRC

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Sept 10: Three-year-old chestnut colt, Reyan King, captured the feature event when he galloped to a facile six lengths victory in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

He was lying third in the initial stage but after turning for home he overtook Velvet Green and Countess Mah Again to post a fluent win in a smart time of one minute 3 1/5 seconds. Trained by Ghulam Channa, he was piloted home by Ghulam Shabbir II.

Filly, Butter Fly, who was not tried by the connections, completed the frame among five runners after Jawan Bakht was withdrawn.

Change of rider bore fruitful result for owner Humayun Mirza when chestnut Your Honour with Yousuf Ikram astride presented him with a winner edging out favourite colt Hot Strides.

The last run of Your Honour was not satisfactory under rider M. Manzoor when he had to be content with fourth slot losing to Sweet Smile by 19 lengths.

Veteran trainer Taj Mohammad shone when he sent a brace of winners in back-to-back races. Prior to Your Honour success in the fifth and supporting event, he saddled three-year-old colt Can’t Catch Me.

After two dismal runs by finishing off the board, Can’t Catch Me surprised all and sundry beating favourite filly, Patricia, by five lengths. The two were chased by Aces High and Chand Aya.

Seven-year-old bay mare, Jadu Nagri, with no form worth, toppled public fancy bay colt, New Ferrari, by posting a four lengths victory. The field was reduced to six after Piyari Mehbooba and Jaguar were withdrawn.

Earlier, eight-year-old bay mare, Ghabra, made it two on trot when she registered two lengths victory over filly Sea Of Love. In the same race riders of Lucky Five Riaz Mohammad and Ladla Mumtaz Ali were penalized for ‘unsatisfactory riding’.
